Flowers for Food Security

Flowers for Food Security is a new partnership program between Central Rivers Farmshed and Fields & Flora LLC. Purchasing a bouquet from Fields & Flora with flowers grown from Farmshed’s Union lot space means 5% of your purchase goes directly back to Farmshed’s food security programs, most of which helps buy local food from local farms.

Central Rivers Farmshed is a nonprofit organization in Stevens Point, Wisconsin whose mission is to build a resilient local food economy. We work closely with and serve local farmers, assist in food security, and promote cultural food access. While Farmshed most often works with food farmers, we also have working relationships with non-food farmers. As we began to do more work involving food security, Farmshed brainstormed ways to still be engaged with non-food farmers as we grew into this new sector of work. Flowers for Food Security was a proposed plan by Farmshed where we invited Fields and Flora to plant their flowers in a vacant lot Farmshed owned, free of charge, and in return, some of the sales from those flowers would be given back to Farmshed for food security programs including Sib Pab, Farm Fresh & Free, Mobile Pantry, and our donation garden. Ella and Rosie agreed to the proposal, excited to grow in a new space, support pollinator habitats, beautify a desolate lot, AND be involved in food security efforts in their community.

Flowers from this program will soon be appearing at Fields and Flora’s market stand at the Appleton farmers market. Keep an eye out for the ‘Flowers for Food Security’ sign at the booth! Don’t want to wait or not close to the Appleton farmers market? You can donate to the Flowers for Food Security Program here anytime!
