2008 Food Preservation Workshops

  • Eating Summers’ Bounty All Year Long - Sat, August 9, 10am-noon  at the Pinery Room, Portage County Public Library. Local residents will demonstrate how to freeze, dry and can produce to enjoy throughout the year.

  • Canning Workshop - Tues, August 26, 7:00 - 8:30 pm, at the Court House Annex, Stevens Point. Pat Rychter, Family Living Educator, will discuss up-to-date canning methods, food safety and recommended equipment.  Registration preferred – call  346-1316.

  • Freezing and Drying Workshop - Tues, Sept. 9, 7:00 - 8:30 pm at the Court House Annex. Pat Rychter will discuss methods of freezing and drying foods and food safety. Registration preferred – call  346-1316.

  • Root Cellar Workshop - Tues, Sept. 23, 7:00–8:00 pm at the Court House Annex. Ken  Schroeder, UW Extension , will discuss management of existing root cellars and how to create root cellar like conditions in your home. Reistration preferred – call 346-1316.

  • Applesauce Making Day - Sat, Sept. 27,  1pm-4pm  (Come for all or part of the time!) St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 600 Wilshire Blvd., Stevens Point. See three different methods and take some home for the cost of the apples. Registration preferred – call 592-4423.

  • 30 people attended the Networking for Local Food Producers, Restaurants, and Retailers event and discussed ways to build relationships between food growers and buyers.
