Farmshed’s Compost Crew

More information about 2017 Compost Crew coming soon!

The Compost Crew is a collection of trained volunteers who make and maintain compost piles/windrows at the Farmshed Compost Site throughout the year.

Previously, it had been managed by a long time volunteer, Guy Pledger, and then a Compost Intern was added to the mix to vamp up compost production and take some of the pressure off of Guy. The Compost Crew not only collects food waste from Farmshed but also others in the community reducing the amount of waste going into landfills! Some partners that are apart of this aspect include Father Fats, El Jefes, Stevens Point Co-op, and the Coffee Studio.

In 2016, volunteers visited 1-2 times a week with 2-3 hours at each visit. However, with a large volunteer group, crew members only had to visit 2-3 times throughout the season.  We will soon be posting more information about how to get involved in the 2017 Compost Crew.

If you are interested in joining the compost crew or just want more information about it, feel free to email

We Believe: 1) Food should be grown in a sustainable manner 2) People should know how to buy, grow, harvest, preserve, and prepare local foods 3) The public should know local farmers 4) Farmers should know who eats their food
