We Believe:

People should know how to buy, grow, harvest, preserve, and prepare local foods

Community Revitalization:

An all-encompassing revitalization effort to transform the former Sorenson’s Garden Center into a community food center.

Central Rivers Farmshed and many community partners came together to launch an all-encompassing revitalization of the former Sorenson’s Garden Center.  The 35,000 square foot future community food center, which is centrally located in Stevens Point, will house an 11,000 square foot production greenhouse, community kitchen, gathering space, and learning center. The acquisition of this property has afforded Farmshed the opportunity to deepen our community’s relationship with food in all forms: from growing, to processing, preserving, cooking and finally eating, all while building a regional food system.

Since receiving the keys in October 2011, hundreds of volunteers have participated in the transformation of the abandoned property, working diligently to turn it around.  While the facility renovations continue to be a work in progress, the volunteers’ hard work has enabled us to move forward in many ways.  We have also had the help of AmeriCorps NCCC, sending us teams to work on large scale projects.  Their service has been crucial in getting us where we are today.

We’re not done yet, but look how far we’ve come!
