What is Farmshed?

The Central Rivers Farmshed, Inc (known to most as Farmshed) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization representing all aspects of the food system whose members are committed to making Central Wisconsin a renowned, local food community.

We envision a bustling local food economy of sustainable producers, social entrepreneurs, businesses, organizations, and impassioned eaters working together to preserve agricultural heritage, protect natural resources, ensure the health of our communities, understand the true value of food, provide fair compensation for meaningful work, and recognize that collaboration is necessary to maintain a viable food system.

Farmshed’s mission is to expand the connection between local residents and their food by providing opportunities for participation, education, cooperation, and action to support a local food economy in Central Wisconsin.

We Believe:

  • Food should be grown in a sustainable manner
  • People should know how to buy, grow, harvest, preserve, and prepare local foods
  • The public should know local farmers
  • Farmers should know who eats their food

Farmshed is made up of people who care about local food, the environment, and community.  They share concerns about the current food system, are willing to take action, are motivated to change the way we relate to our food, and are working hard to connect the dots so that everyone knows where their food comes from.

Building a local food community...together!

Farmshed and many community partners came together to launch an all-encompassing revitalization of the former Sorenson’s Garden Center. The 35,000 square foot community food center, which is centrally located in Stevens Point, houses a 7,000 square foot production greenhouse, community kitchen, gathering space, and learning center.
